I came to this work by way of personal and professional evolution. Prior to becoming a counselor I had been a massage therapist focused on holistic healing. My initial interest in holistic healthcare stemmed from a back injury that I was determined to address without the use of surgery.
During this journey I learned how the body stores our life experiences. I learned how unreleased trauma can create somatic issues as well as mental health problems. I learned that I not only had to focus on physical healing but that I had to acknowledge the unresolved effects of growing up in an alcoholic family system and how those patterns followed me into adulthood.
This work is very personal to me.
Academically, I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University where I graduated with honors. I draw from Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Adrian and Humanistic Theory and Trauma Informed practices. I have specialized training in Play Therapy and Attachment techniques and I enjoy the use of Sandtray Therapy with clients of all ages.
