"Success isn’t about how your life looks to others. It’s about how it feels to you."

I came to this work by way of personal and professional evolution. Prior to becoming a counselor I had been a massage therapist focused on holistic healing. My initial interest in holistic healthcare stemmed from a back injury that I was determined to address without the use of surgery.

During this journey I learned how the body stores our life experiences. I learned how unreleased trauma can create somatic issues as well as mental health problems. I learned that I not only had to focus on physical healing but that I had to acknowledge the unresolved effects of growing up in an alcoholic family system and how those patterns followed me into adulthood.

This work is very personal to me.

Academically, I  hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University where I graduated with honors. I draw from Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Adrian and Humanistic Theory and Trauma Informed practices. I have specialized training in Play Therapy and Attachment techniques and I enjoy the use of Sandtray Therapy with clients of all ages.

What I'm like as a therapist

I’m all in! I am present and transparent, often reflecting personal examples that may illuminate a place where you are feeling stuck or to help you feel less isolated. I am right there with you.

I have a warm, non-judgmental approach that provides an opportunity to address short and long term goals, crisis situations, and long-term underlying issues in a safe and affirmative space.

I am deeply invested in my clients and what they are struggling with. I will reflect on our sessions throughout the week and have been known to say: "You know, I was thinking about you after our last session and I want to run this thought I had by you…”

I'm not easily intimidated, shaken, or shocked. I've heard alot. I can hold it all.

I laugh. I curse. You will always know you are with a real human.

How I work

My work is deeply rooted in trauma research and neuroscience and my counseling approach has been influenced by my own healing journey, years of independent study as well as my training in clinical mental health.

I do not manualize therapy. I believe that successful therapy depends on tailoring sessions to be in alignment with each individual’s unique circumstances. I value your feedback, always - you are the authority of your experience. It is my goal to meet you where you are and create a course of therapy to fit your needs at this time.

I believe that to truly see change we have to engage from the roots. My focus is on helping you heal past wounds and gather the skills to maintain a positive forward focus on life.

In general

I love to be outdoors enjoying nature. I love to travel and have new experiences in new cultures. I make art.

I can be a bit of a geek when it comes to reading about new science like epigenetics and new brain research.

I’ll numb to netflix for an escape from reality.

My life is shared with my husband and we are tolerated by our four cats provided we open the food cans at the appropriate times and give plenty of head scratches.
